How softening devices work
They work by ion exchange, which is the process by which limescale is removed from water. This is done with the help of an ion-exchange resin in the softening device made up of fine ionic granules. As hard water flows through the resin, calcium and magnesium ions bind to the resin. The result of this process is soft water.
Pipna softening devices also include an automatic regeneration function that allows automatic cleaning of the ion-exchange resin. During the regeneration cycle, the softening device cuts off the water supply and then purifies the ion-exchange resin with a salt solution (sodium chloride) or other regenerant. This process restores the resin’s exchange capacity and ensures that the softening device will continue to work effectively in the future.
